ExperienceHave had extensive experience tutoring college students in various situations, one-on-one and in groups, coming from a wide-variety of backgrounds, academic levels, learning styles, and math subjects. In addition to mathematics, have tutored statistics in depth. Have 14 years of experience overall, tutoring math to elementary school, middle school, high school, and college students. The different subjects of mathematics tutored are many and varied. In high school and college include: algebra, geometry, trigonometry, competition math, precalculus, calculus (I and II), math for teachers, math in preparation for the ACCUPLACER, ACT, ASVAB, COMPASS, GRE, PSAT, SAT, math for welding, and again, statistics. Help students learn math in ways that they understand and relate. Give clear and detailed explanations of math processes so students know how to work through math problems and can remember how to do them in the future. Have 11 years of experience teaching math to college students in the classes of Basic Mathematics, Elementary Algebra I and II, Intermediate Algebra, College Algebra, Trigonometry, and recitation for Calculus I. Trigonometry is a favorite to tutor. Have effective problem solving abilities, including quick processing of new information and ideas. Also, work well with students to help them gain more confidence in how proficient and competent they are becoming in their math courses.
HobbiesFrom the feedback that I get from students, I am told that I am patient, knowledgeable, and help them understand the material. I am also told that I help them understand the material better than others who have tried to help them. In one of my capacities as a tutor, it is common for me to be asked what my schedule is, so that they can meet me during those times. Outside of math, one of my other interests is music. I listen to a wide variety of music and have played different stringed instruments over time, mainly classical guitar, but also, violin, and mandolin. In addition, I play the piano and pipe organ. All instruments were self-taught. I enjoy long walks, hiking, and mountain climbing. Throughout the summer, I feed many hummingbirds, finding them beautiful and fascinating.
