Experience
I have a decade of experience as a teacher and tutor. I went to the University of New Mexico to earn my undergraduate degree in languages, and then I went on to Indiana State University for a graduate degree in linguistics and TESL. I became certified in TESL at the Trinity Institute. I started as an educator by tutoring classmates in college and graduate school, and I spent three years teaching ESL in South Korea. I then worked for Virginia International University. I enjoy working with foreign exchange students and other non-native English speakers and helping them understand American culture and the English language. I worked with many different students from all over the world, teaching them to speak, write, read, and listen in English. I've also helped them refine their grammar skills. In addition, I help students prepare for the TOEFL exam so that they can teach English as a foreign language as well. I am very patient with my students, and I encourage lots of practice, but I also introduce fun activities and games to keep students engaged. When I have spare time outside of academics, I enjoy swing dancing, ballroom dancing, doing jigsaw puzzles, going on walks, watching television and movies, knitting, and reading.
