I'm a student at Austin Community College, and will soon transfer to a four-year university in order to study towards my bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering. I remember when I used to be struck by fear at the mention of math class, because for some reason, I just figured I was bad at it. Then I faced my organic chemistry class and realized that if I could learn that, I could face any challenge. Needless to say, based on the classes that I am going to tutor in, I have become a huge fan of math. The only thing that really changed was my attitude. I always had the ability to do math, and I believe that every student does. But I remember the fear, and I am especially able to help students with the dreaded "math anxiety." I had the opportunity to assist a teacher in the college algebra class at my school, and it made me really gain an appreciation of sharing math with others. Guiding students who are earning D's and C's in math as they gain confidence and turn into A and B students is one of the greatest joys in my life. This is the reason I tutor.
